Price Increase for Student Plan
In a move that has gone largely under the radar, Apple Music has quietly increased the price of its student plan in several countries. The price hike affects students in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
New Prices
- In the United States and Canada, the new price for the student plan is $5.99 per month (up from $4.99).
- In the United Kingdom, the price increase is £5.99 (previously £4.99).
Individual Plan Remains Unchanged
It’s worth noting that the individual plan remains unaffected by this price change and still costs $9.99 in the United States and Canada, as well as £9.99 in the United Kingdom.
Changes to Student Plan Benefits
Prior to the recent changes, Apple Music offered a 50% discount off the monthly subscription price for students. With the new pricing structure, students now receive a 40% discount off the standard Apple Music subscription.
Family Plan Prices Remain Unchanged
The family plan, which offers up to six individual accounts for $14.99 per month, has not seen any changes in its pricing.
Global Price Adjustments
It’s worth noting that Apple Music increased the price of its student plan in several countries last month, including Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, India, Indonesia, and Israel.
Apple Music Voice Plan: A Cheaper Option for Basic Users
The music streaming service has also introduced a new tier called the "Apple Music Voice" plan. For $4.99 per month, users can access Apple Music’s vast library of songs, playlists, and radio stations using Siri commands only.
Key Features of the Apple Music Voice Plan
- Access to 90 million songs
- Tens of thousands of playlists
- Hundreds of new mood and activity playlists, personalized mixes, and genre stations
- Includes Apple Music Radio
No Official Statement from Apple on Price Increases
As of now, Apple has not made an official announcement regarding the price changes for its student plan. When reached out to TechCrunch for comment, they chose not to respond.
